Cliched Stock Photography Music Video

Video by Gerrit Basson & Kit Ballantyne at Two Fish, Amsterdam. To the tune of Billy Joel’s “We Didn’t Start The Fire.”

It asks that very question I always wondered…who takes these photos?!

” The 91st Art Directors Club Annual This book is an extension of the “keep fighting the good fight” campaign, which pokes fun at the industry while celebrating the best of the year’s creative achievements. Designed at DDB New York, Creative Direction: Matt Eastwood & Menno Kluin, Art Direction: Carlos Wigle, Copywriter: Aron Fried, Book Design: Juan Carlos Pagan & Brian Gartside, Illustrations: Rami Niemi.”

At DDB we are guided by playbooks, not rule books. Rigid methodologies minimize creativity. Paint-by-numbers gets you the same painting every time. That is not to say we do not have tried and true approaches to building and growing world class brands – we do. But rather than share our methodologies, we rather you spend time on the rest of this site and take a look at examples of our work, peruse some of our thinking, participate in our debates and discussions – basically get to know who we are.

Dallas-based Firehouse launched the SNAP Program for Dallas Farmers Market Friends to help raise awareness amongst lower income Dallas residents that some of the city’s freshest and most affordable produce can be found at the Dallas Farmers Market.

I think these ads do score high in its attempt to make these fresh, healthy foods look tasty and a much better choice than the traditional fast food they are mimicking. I do not however, automatically think of the price point. Nevertheless, it is an eye-catching campaign that makes me crave some veggies and fruit!

How we design our retro cereal boxes
by Derek Wallen

Editor’s note: This month, our retro packaging is back on five cereals at Target stores across the U.S. It’s our sixth year of bringing back our retro cereals (we wrote about the 2011 boxes in this post). This time around, we’ve also partnered with Hasbro to celebrate its vintage games. We asked Derek Wallen, art director for agency Curb Crowser that designed the boxes, to write about the experience.

I think it is human nature to have a soft spot for nostalgia. My friends are constantly sending me emails with titles like “25 Ways You Know You Were a ’90s Kid” or “Child Celebrities, Then and Now”. It brings a smile to people’s faces when they see something from their childhood, bringing back memories of a “simpler time” (any time before now always seemed simpler no?)
I unfortunately wasn’t old enough to remember these vintage cereal boxes. These vintage box designs were pulled from the 1940’s to 1970s, the oldest being Cheerios from 1944. But I am sure the ones who do remember will enjoy the throwback.
What are some vintage items from your childhood?

New Zealand graphic designer and illustrator Lauren Earl’s guide to sharing living quarters, The Flatmate’s Handbook, is full of humor, wit, fun illustrations, and words of wisdom.

Among the nuggets: Don’t pee in the sink. And, everyone seems normal until you get to know them.

Having been a renter (or “flatter” nearly all of my adult life, and currently grappling with the proverbial upstairs neighbor from hell, this book grabbed me. Go to Lauren’s Behance page to see more images of the book.

Bold   |   http://boldstockholm.se

“We were asked to create an identity that could convey the craftsmanship of a highly skilled production agency. We chose to use the visual and graphic elements that Studion uses every day to build the identity, such as cropmarks, color bars and crosshairs. These elements are beautiful on their own and deserve to be the main focus for a change. They also give a hint of the accuracy that is paramount for a well executed job.”

Bold is a new agency with an old belief: good design is good for business. And because we believe that good becomes great if strategic advise and well-crafted design goes hand in hand when developing brands, we offer both.

I’ve seen it everywhere - this geometric way to layout projects to photograph and showcase

BUT DAMN, I LOVE it!

Seriously, the fact that 90 degree angles can bring me so much satisfaction…it’s sick

What do I do when we are running on a generator and I’m stuck at home? Obviously, go look at design blogs. The fact that we still have internet is quite surprising actually.
Side bar - when the power first went out, my family literally took awhile to figure out what to do with ourselves. We ended up breaking out some board games and books but there was a sense of confusion and loss without technology. We sort of cheated though - we had a radio and my phone still worked. But still - one of the moments in which we realize how much we depend on electricity.

MONOLITH ~ A UNIQUE TABLE CLOCK CONCEPT BY EMRE BAKIR

Everyone can use a universal clock. The intention behind Monolith is to reveal the stereotypes related to time and clocks, and reveal a different aspect of these concepts. Monolith offers a new perspective on telling the time. This clock has been designed like a fine art work, for if time is universal, so too should be the form of the clock.

I love this design. It does take a few seconds to understand how to read the clock…but then again, that’s the point isn’t it? To break out of what is conventionally understood as telling time?

The Poor Little Fishbowl Sink by designer Yan Lu encourages water conservation in a rather unconventional way. Turn on the faucet and the water in the fishbowl drains. Turn off the faucet and the water level returns to normal. No need to worry for the fish, the water will never drain entirely, but hopefully the user is a little more aware of the amount of water being used.

Haha I love this!!

Tho some people will be sure to TRY and drain all the water in the bowl
